My Therapeutic Approaches
I believe in relational development across the lifespan and have been fortunate that my training has incorporated this developmental viewpoint.
I utilise a range of approaches depending upon client needs, although my approach is underpinned by a humanistic philosophy (see more below). Specific approaches include:
Eye-Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR): EMDR has established efficacy in treating a range of presentations, specifically trauma. However, this approach is not suitable for all clients and will be discussed on a case-case basis.
Psychodynamic approaches in child and adult work:
In longer term therapy, I work with a process that takes place over time as I work with clients to go safely into the deeper, often times more painful experiences of existence and to re-discover themselves or even discover themselves for the first time.
Narrative career counselling: Career decisions are important! It is where we spend a great deal of our time as adults. Navigating this in a meaningful way can assist clients in making decisions that feel right for them at a particular point in their lives.
Brief Interventions that are more supportive in nature, often sees me taking an integrative approach to difficulties experienced. I tend to utilise an integrative humanistic approach to brief therapy.
